Parenting is said to be the toughest job for which we receive the least training; but is it simply too difficult for families to properly raise children in modern day Britain? On Saturday 13th March 2010, the Muslim Forum held its first event organised by the Islamic Centre of England and with the support of the AhlulBayt Islamic Mission to discuss the important issue of parenting. Chaired by Ali Ridha Jaffer, the panelists were Sayyed Mohammed Razavi, head of Family & Social Affairs Office at Islamic Centre of England, Mohammed Al-Hilli, from the Family Affairs Committee, Shireen Tejani, who is the Enrichment Officer at the Islamic College and Marziyah Panju, a teaching and learning consultant with Luton Local Authoruty.

I found it inspirational... even though my baby was giving a talk throughout your lecture too hehe . Would like to thank the speakers and people that helped out. Another comment i would like to address that was mentioned in lecture its fair enough to say that take your kids to faith schools etc but in this day and age you dont want to seggergate our kids but instead it all lies with underlying parents to teach there kids well and not leave them to stray. Hamdillulah me and lots more sisters i know have been in mixed schools and we have turned out well my parents were great..and thats what its mainly down too. Thankyou ws wrb

I say to you that if islamic schools are better than state/private schools then why is it that the students of institutions like Al-Khoei school are so ill-mannered and not disciplined?

Most people that attend schools such as the Al-Khoei have been too spoilt by their own parents and they just take them to that school because they know people over there, unfortunately these parents dont want to bring their children up themselves so they think that putting them in a school like that will make it easy. All the kids that come from that school are very rude and have no manners, its seems to me that there is much corruption in schools like these as the heads of the school just think of the money and nothing else!!

What are the basis of Sayed Rizvi's comments that a daughter of Imam Ali (AS) took something from Baitul Maal without permission, and that Imam Hasan (AS) took the honey for which he was reprimanded by Imam Ali (AS)? Surely this goes against our fundamental aqa'ed that the 14 infallibles are free of all mistakes, errors and lapses?

The incident where Lady Zainab took something from Baitul Mal during his Caliphate is an incident quite well known, the incident relates to the event of Eid where Lady Zainab had worn a very rich and beautiful necklace which was from the Baitul Maal. It was not something she was reprimanded for rather Imam Ali [a] stated that because of her status and his status it is not wise for her to do that because people will have differen thoughts and she should lead by example.
Regarding in issue of Aqa'ed have you considered asking Sayed Razavi directly about this? You do realise that within our Aqa'ed there is a difference of opinion when it comes to isma. For example the difference between Shaykh Saduq and Shaykh al=mufeed on the issue of isma being the prime example.

I've never heard either incident before. I'm sure I have also read that Shaykh Sadooq later on changed his opinion on ismah. However, I would appreciate if anyone who does have a source for this incident would share it with us all.

Manners is a rare gift no matter if you attend a public or private school. Why do I say this because we s are constantly challenged by all the negative influences that bombard us on a daily basis that encourage bad behaviour. Is there a safety net when we face such traps sadly enough we are not organized enough to challenge these influences!!!!! How many of us have put pen to paper when it comes to voicing any concerns in-regards to things that we brand as harmful. I know not too long ago vulgar language was completely unacceptable in society today sadly enough it has become fashionable!!!!
